One could almost write up this week's results as if they were from a football game between two fairly matched teams, with one being favored by 7. Most of the season, Kerry held onto first place like he owned it, beating back Phil with a short stick. But he let Phil hang around, allowing his lead to be whittled slowly away. Then finally, in one do-or-die weekend of championship football, Phil laid it all out on the table. He didn't take his own Eagles to beat the Rams, but instead picked a seemingly more unlikely upset: Patriots over Steelers. Phil's dink-and-dunk style of offense in this contest has so far proved the victor over Kerry's vertical, stretch-the-field style of offense he employed most of the season. Phil is now our new contest leader, and with just the Super Bowl left to pick, the crown might be his to keep.

Email quotes from the week:

Brad: "Can anyone beat the Rams? Well, the Rams can beat themselves, but I donít think anyone else can. Being a Cowboys fan I wish nothing but bad things on the Eagles. Since the early 90ís they have been the team that I have hated most in the NFL and I enjoy seeing them fail. I hope StL hangs at least 50 on them."

Phil: "I don't ever recall seeing two top seeds in the Super Bowl, so historically one of the #1 seeds will go down this week. However, both #1 seeds are playing so solidly that it's hard to tell which one will fall, if any. So I could easily pick conservatively, but I'm not going to do that. As they say, "no guts, no glory." After all, I'd rather lose this contest playing aggressively than win playing conservatively. At the onset of the playoffs, Ray did ask me who I liked in the Super Bowl and I told him the Rams and the Pats, so in essence I'm being consistent here."

Kerry: "Put me down for St. Louis and Pittsburgh. I made a prediction way back that these two would end up playing each other in the Superbowl. I am standing by that. While it is true these are the favorites and my picks my seem gutless, I have to pick who I truly believe to be the best two teams."
