Another week, another whip. This weekend of football almost slipped by without a major upset, but the Cardinals summarily kept that from happening. I'm sure Phil had nightmares of people saying "Jake the Snake" over and over. I still call him "Jake the Fake", and I will until he retires. There were a few other minor surprises this week, though, as well. Chicago bum-rushed Atlanta, and the Saints paddy-whacked the Vikings. Also, the Cincinnati/Pittsburgh game brought the Bengals firmly back to the ground, while the Packers and Chargers fell (somewhat respectfully) from the ranks of the unbeaten. Tony and myself did the best job of picking the games this week, with Tony grabbing sole position of first place, and myself moving to share third. Phil slumps a bit to second, while Jay gets smacked back to third. Alan and Brad are still hanging tough, and no one is really truly out of the contest yet. Notice that with four weeks of the season behind us, no one has yet been able to claim first place two weeks in a row!

Email quotes from the week:

Alan: "Please change my team to the Rams. I've always liked them and am now going public."

Tony: (When asked if he wanted to keep his pick of Cowboys over Raiders) "I don't know. . . maybe the embarrassment on national TV the other night. They still have enough good players, that if they get pissed off enough they can win a game. Plus they've played them twice in pre-season and had good success (I know it's only pre-season). It's just a hunch, really. I just think they will pull off an upset or two on the way to 3 wins and you got to pick them sometime. . ."

Phil: "As you've probably guessed by now, I am definitely not changing my team's background. In fact, Ray could even witness to the fact that I was cheering for the Eagles even when they were 3-13."

Beth: (When asked if she was sure about picking NE over Miami) "I do almost as well with this as I do with the lotto. My method is simple albeit uneffective... I read the names aloud, and whatever sounds good is what I pick. I have yet to look at one article or read any stats about any team. The only influence over my opinion is if I happen to catch a bit of the sportscast on the 10pm news. It's not the most gung-ho method, but I just want to see how well an uneducated (in current football, that is) person can do with random picks. Call it my own probability project."
