Week 11

November 16 - 17

You had to figure that after the whipping we all took the last two weeks, something had to give. Well, things finally calmed down this week, and our picks really did a 180. No doubt it helps that there are again 2 extra games each week now that Bye Season is over. But this really was a banner week. No record lower than 11-5, and the highest mark was 13-3. That record is owned by both Tony and Shannon. Tony was the only one to pick the upset of Cincinnati over KC (and with that game I think we finally have a solid definition for the word "upset"). No one was able to come up with Minnesota choking again, and only Cody was able to foresee Houston beating the Bills. Everyone won the Falcons / Saints, Jaguars / Titans, Redskins / Panthers, Jets / Colts, and Lions / Seahawks picks. But of course, there were also the smattering of failed upset specials. Jason alone incorrectly picked the Giants over the Eagles. Despite Cody's key pick of Houston, he also blew it with his pick of SD over Denver. Ray nearly had a golden pick, but Baltimore lost to Miami and he ended up with pyrite. Same goes for Jay, who got burned by his pick of Chicaco over the Rams. And Kerry really bit it with his solo pick of Arizona over Cleveland. It seems like everyone is picking fairly safely right now, and with good reason. With 6 weeks left, this contest is extremely tight. Jason barely holds on to first, still with a one-game lead over Phil in second. But the clog begins in 3rd place, where Alan, Tanya, Brad, Joe, and Tony all are two games behind the lead. We've almost got as much parity in our contest as the NFL has! Don't you just love parity!!

Replay Challenge # 7:
This week everyone was assigned their picks in a uniformly random manner. To further twist things up, though, each person got to change two of their predetermined picks. Since each person generally had between 3 and 7 really unsavory picks, it really became a game of deciding which upset was more unlikely than another. Tanya and Shannon got burned by changing their preset pick of Cincinnati to KC, Satish certainly regrets changing his pick of Houston to Buffalo, and Phil, Joe, and Jason each unluckily switched their Oakland picks back to Minnesota. Those who made no changes fared unevenly: Ray ended up with a week-low 6 wins, and Cody only did one better with 7 wins. But Brad, Jay, and Shyam left well-enough alone and scored 11 wins. As for the week's best, that title belongs to none other than Tony, who with 13 wins now opens up a nearly 7-point lead over his nearest competitor. The overall leaders are: Tony - 74.27; Tanya - 67.65; Joe - 67.42 . For complete details from this week's contest, click here. (For HTML version, click here).
