Week 5

October 5 - 6

Well, this will probably not be the most interesting com- mentary, because I'm about tired of this week's hi-jinx. I had this whole page fixed up and ready to go, with about 8 minutes to go in the Ind/TB game, reflecting what was supposed to be a Tampa Bay win. You know, I usually wait before I start hacking away at this thing until the game is over. But I figured this time, what the heck? With a 21-point lead, I might as well wrap it up. BUT NO, the Colts had to come back and win the damn thing!! So now all my previous com- mentary is out the window. It's after midnight, and I'm whipped. I will say a couple things. The revolving door at the top of the overall rankings continues, as Jason moves back into the lead, knocking Joe back to second. (Note that if the Bucs had won, 1st and 2nd would have been reversed, with Phil and Joe leading the pack.) Shyam finally has a good record with a week-leading 10-4. He shares that record with Jay and Jason, who happen to be the only players who were glad Indy pulled out that amazing win on Monday night. Chicago's surprise win over Oakland nailed everyone except Alan. And while Jay was the only one to correctly pick Cleveland's upset over Pittsburgh, he shares goat honors with Tony for being the only players to wrongly pick Atlanta over Minnesota. (Although Ray is also humbled after being the only one to pick Denver over KC, although he was real close to scoring a huge upset.) Overall, it's hard to say that anyone is really out of it yet. Only 4 games separate 1st place from 10th! And it's time for me to close the books on this wild and ridiculous week 5.

Bye Week:
Baltimore Ravens
Houston Texans
New York Jets
St. Louis Rams
Replay Challenge #4:
This week, everyone had the chance to try to turn the tables on each other. With each player assigned a game, you could pick the losers to give your opponents the least points. But the upsets this week proved fruitful for a couple players who stood to lose a lot if the games had gone the other way. Benefitting the most was Jason, who earned a 12-2 mark from his opponents who graciously picked Chicago over Oakland for him. Other lucky dudes include Tony, who was nearly forced to make things interesting for everyone else if Tampa had won. But instead most everyone generously picked Indy to give him an 11-3 record. Also, Ray went 9-5 with people picking NE over Tennessee for him, and Shyam got an 8-6 record from generous picks in the Cle/Pit game. So, the overall leaders are: Tony - 36.10; Jason - 33.14; Ray - 31.94 . For complete details from this week's contest, click here.
