Week 9

November 2 - 3

You knew this kind of an ugly week was coming. I decided we all needed a little motivation so I scanned some phrases from a pin catalog and gave everyone a boost! (ha ha ha) A handful of upsets nailed almost everyone... No one smelled Houston beating Caro-lina, New Orleans handling Tampa Bay (again!), or Arizona upending Cincinnati. Only Jay and Cody got the GB/Min pick right, and the Colts' win over Miami was forecast correctly by only 5 players. To add to all this misery, incorrect upset picks also abounded. Kerry, Shannon, Phil, and Jason wrongly picked SD over Chi-cago. Only Ray erroneously picked Pittsburgh over Seattle. Cody had two bombs, going solo in picking Atlanta over Philly and also Jacksonville over Baltimore. And in a strange twist of events, while Jay, Tanya, and Shyam were the only 3 to pick StL/SF cor-rectly, they also were the only players to incorrectly pick the NE/Den game. And just so I can print Jay's name one more time, he was the only one to make the wrong pick of Wash-ington over Dallas. (Again, it seems that for every great pick he makes, there is a goof pick to offset it.) All in all, this is the only week so far this season where no one had double-digit wins. Tony emerges victorious this week with a relatively sweet 9-5 record. But 10 players finish with records at or below 500. Yuck! What does this do overall? Jason opens up a significant 3-game lead over a 4-way jam at second that includes Phil, Joe, Brad, and - look who's back threatening to take the lead - Tanya. So far this season, we see that Ray is the only player that does not have a week with double-digit wins, while Jason has the most such weeks, going 7 of 9. This is just the halfway point of the season... What else must we endure?

Replay Challenge # 6:
The contest this week required players to pick the five teams that they thought would rack up the most offensive yardage in Week 9. With 24 points on the line, everyone turned in a pretty good effort. The top 5 teams each had 400+ yards of total offense (GB, Philly, NE, NY Giants, and Dallas), and each was picked by at least one of the players. Tanya and Phil both picked the same teams, and their combination earned them the highest numbers for the week. They each won about 21.5 points. Ray had a bit of a downer, with Miami and Oakland putting up disappointing numbers. He slides from the top 3 after earning a week-low 17.2 points. So, the overall leaders are: Tony - 62.89; Joe - 60.423; Cody - 60.416 . For complete details from this week's contest, click here. (For HTML version, click here).
