Week 2

September 19 - 20

Ever since the Week 2 debacle in 2002, the sec-ond week of the season has given me cause to be nervous. This year Week 2 held numerous surprises. But overall the group seemed to weather the storm pretty well. Only two players sunk below 500 for the week (Tracy and Kerry, stand up so every-one can see you). In fact, whenever you can garner a double-digit win total in this day and age of the NFL, you should consider yourself victorious. Satish managed to get the most wins this week, clawing out a nice 12-4 mark. Close behind him though are 8 others who scraped together a decent 11-5.

As for those Week 2 sur-prises... Who could have predicted Carolina stomping the Chiefs? Well, in our group, only Shane, Lloyd, and Cody. And how about the Bears absolutely taking over Lambeau Field? Yeah, that would be a big zero, as in no one in our group picked that one right. There was also Denver blowing a chance to win in Jackson-ville. Mike and Phil were the only ones here to guess that one correctly. And then we also have the Redskins handing the ball over to the Giants SEVEN times and generally stinking up the Meadowlands. Shyam was the genius for that one - he alone picked NY.

But where there are glo-rious upset picks, there are also misguided upset picks. Shyam and Shane cancel out their good picks men-tioned above by being the only players to take Tampa over Seattle. And Shyam fumbled again, this time teaming up with Lloyd to be the only ones rooting for the Chargers over the Jets. Lastly, Cody alone failed to pick Dallas over Cleveland.

So, Shannon loses a little ground by going 10-6, while Brad and Joe each inch a game closer to the lead with 11-5 marks. Just 2 games behind, Phil, Jason, and Alan are all easily within striking distance of the overall lead...

Satish          12-4

Here are some player quotes from Week 2...
Shannon: So you think you can challenge me? OK, I'll give you another chance.
Cody: Bring it on BEOTCH!
Tanya: Man.. I agonized over some of these picks!
Phil: (on picking NO over SF) I'll take talented but underachieving over just plain incompetent any time.
Tracy: I am losing my ASS this week! I sure hope everyone else is sucking as bad as I am.
Kerry: Kansas City to lose at home where they didn't lose last year, to Carolina, who looked really bad last week. Green Bay.... we don't need to go there. Washington, what a dumb pick. I should have known they would have 7 turnovers and still only lose by 6.
Good Lord!!!!!!
Shannon: (to Tanya) You picked NO over SF? Just think, maybe if you had picked your team, they might have pulled off the win! It was so close!
Tanya: It was closer than I wanted it... I just didn't figure SF stood a chance in hell against NO...! What the F* happened to GB????
Kerry: I embrace the following battle cry.... "I AM NOT AFRAID TO GET BEHIND EARLY"
