Week 4

October 3 - 4

I think it should be said that this year's contest is by far more interesting than the last couple have been. Four weeks into this mess, and twelve contestants are separated by 3 games. That is an amazing statistic, made possible only by the chaos inherent in the NFL. Cody made the most of that chaos that week, abso-lutely smacking everyone down with a smokin' 12-2 record. In a week where that mark beats the next best record by 2 games, Cody was able to move from bottom-feeder to challenger. He sliced a 7-game deficit in half in one week's time.

Doubles-team Brad and Joe picked the same way again this week, and both are kicking themselves after choking on a 7-7 mark. That allowed Jason to sneak by with a 9-5 record and claim the top spot for himself alone. The underwhelming 7-7 score was earned by three other people, Alan, Shane, and Tanya, but that wasn't the worst. Poor Tracy is doing her best impression of a punching bag as she gets TKO'd with a 4-10 uppercut. It will take a miracle for her to dig out of her situation.

There were no blanket group picks this week. That could probably be expected because we have 18 people playing, so you're bound to get someone to pick the big underdog. Only Shane picked the Niners and Mike alone took Buffalo (ouch). A number of other games were key swing picks. Big "upsets" by Arizona, Cleveland, San Diego, Atlanta, and the Giants truly decided the week. Satish was the only one to go against the Packers, only Jay, Phil, Shane, and Tony took the Chargers, and only Shyam, Mike, Jay, and Cody went with the Browns. With all this unpredictability, next week has to be more stable, right? Right?!?

Here are some player quotes from Week 4...
Shannon: Where are this week's upsets? Does the term "upset" really apply anymore in the NFL?
Kerry: The only upset I know of is the upset stomach I get when I see how cruddy my picks were
Jay: What a crappy week. Hopefully the Pack can take care of business this time.
Tracy: I'm going to lose my butt this week...
Shane: I've got some catching up to do!
Cody: The year of Cody is going downhill FAST!
Phil: (on picking St Louis) I don't think I'm going to pick the 49ers to win at all this year.
Tracy: The Oakland and Green Bay games are pissing me off!!! I hope these guys have to run laps for the rest of their lives.
Joe: (to Shannon) I think a bunch of people are going to catch us this week. DAMN YOUR PACKERS!!!
